Are you soon planning to visit Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, also known as Keoladeo National Park? If yes, then you’re reading the right blog wherein I’ll be telling you some significant points, on the basis of my personal experience, you should know before visiting this place.
So, this all started last weekend, when a few of my best friends came to meet me and visit Agra for a 2-3 days trip. Although I’m a resident of Agra, I again explored another unexplored part of this historic city with my friends.
We visited many popular monuments and places in the city such as The Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Guru Ka Taal Gurudwara and Fatehpur Sikri.
Then I thought about why not to visit Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, which is located at a distance of around 55 Km from the centre of the city. Though neither of us has photography or bird watching as a hobby, still we made our mind to visit here.
But after visiting there, we realised that there are some things which we missed out and I don’t want you people, to make the same mistakes. Well, before discussing these points, let’s have a look at a suitable time to visit here.
Best Time To Visit Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary
The best time to visit Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is from August to November to enjoy the regional birds, and from October to February to enjoy the migrated birds. However, the best week to visit here is around the new year, i.e., last week of December and starting week of January.

Things You Should Know Before You Visit Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary
Below are some enlisted points I would like you to know about before visiting here:
1. Reach As Early As Possible
The bird sanctuary opens with the sunrise and closes with sunset. Although you can make entry at any time, but as per my personal experience I would recommend you to visit it as early as possible.
You should reach here maximum by 9:00 or 9:30 AM IST, especially on the weekends, otherwise, you might face some difficulty.
If you get late, you might not be able to rent a cycle or hire a rickshaw, as the services are available on the first come first serve basis. This happens on weekends due to the limited number of transportation mode and at the same time a comparatively higher number of visitors.
2. Must Carry Good Quality Binoculars
If you love watching birds, then you cannot afford to forget carrying good quality binoculars with you. Trust me, most of the birds would be sitting a little far from what your naked eyes can see.
And obviously, if you are coming to a bird sanctuary for bird watching, then binoculars is a must-have thing inside your bag.
3. DSLR Camera With Zoom Lenses
I don’t personally own any DSLR or a high-end camera, but I can definitely say that if you wanna capture the birds with you, then you should carry a camera with the lenses which are able to capture the far object clearly.
I did the mistake of assuming that my mobile camera is good enough to take some pictures. But it really didn’t work.
4. Renting Cycle Is Cheapest & Adventurous
I would highly recommend you to rent a cycle, as they are the cheapest way to explore the sanctuary inside. Otherwise you may opt for a rickshaw with the driver, but this may cost a little more.
The cycle costs around INR 50 for 3 hours, while a rickshaw will costs around INR 150 per hour for 2 people.
It really depends on you, whether you want comfort while enjoying watching birds, or you wanna ride on your own.
5. Do Not Opt For A Walk
Do not, I repeat, do not opt for a walk, if you want to explore the whole bird sanctuary. The distance is of around 5.5 Kms one way.
As discussed, in the last point, try to rent/hire some mode of transport inside the sanctuary. Otherwise, if you walk you’ll soon get really tired and gonna spoil your mood.
And don’t forget to reach at the sanctuary early, otherwise the only option you will be left with is nothing but to walk.
6. Carry Student ID For Cheap Ticket (For Students)
Some good news for students! Students with a valid student ID proof will get tickets for a very cheaper rate than usual.
This is because the government want the youth to be aware about the nature and develops the student’s interest and knowledge.
By carrying a valid proof, you can save a good amount of money on the tickets. *The rate card is given below.
7. Don’t Forget To Carry Light Snacks & Water Bottle
This is the most common yet useful point. It is always preferred to carry a water bottle with you while you are coming to visit here.
Also, to enjoy your visit, you may carry some packaged chips and other stuff with yourself and consume them in between your way.
Tip: Beware of the monkeys while you are eating there in open.
